Since she was young, she had to fend for herself and learn to survive on her own. Her mother died from infection when F/N was just 5 and her dad went missing outside of the quarantine zone when she was 7 so she's been alone for the past 5 years. Her and Tommy have grown close over the past 3 years and everywhere he goes, she goes. The same goes for Maria, although F/N personally prefers Tommy, considering he did bring her up as if she was his daughter. But what happens when Joel and Ellie return back to Tommy's after abandoning the fireflies?
