As the new year begins, change is in the air. A wilding war mage enters as shield to Kaulu, representatives have been replaced, and the coven reformed per the council's instructions. Naena arrives at Amos to discover her father has already begun machinations to involve himself in every aspect of her life. Jasor orders her placed in one of the coveted shield dorm rooms which have been closed for nearly two decades to prevent certain time-honoured traditions. Trathor has been renewed and told in no uncertain terms that there will not be a fourth renewal. And then there's the matter of the second-year student with no memory of the first. A young man with mismatched eyes, the mirror image of a boy Jasor killed in his second year so long ago, with no known history yet who is recognized by certain members of staff who speak fondly of the boy with the flowery name.

~Sequel to "The Masquerade Ball"~ It's been three years since Kava has seen her family and friends, three years since she left before Warren had planned, and three years since she got ahold of the Amulet of Undoing. She's wondering alone with her loyal horse by her side jumping from house to house, tavern to tavern. She can't go back home since her face is practically planted everywhere as well as Warrens men. She's welcome into the kingdoms of the fey and the elves, but is soon under pressure to get rid of the Amulet as she's lost sight of what's really important. Tired of being a coward she faces Warren instead of running with the hopes to stop the threats of war that loom over the nation. Will she succeed or is war too powerful for the mighty Captain of the Guard?
