After four months to think over and reflect on the events of Lyllith's 'secret' coming to light, the boys (whether some of them want to admit it or not) have started to miss her. The feelings of betrayal and hurt are there and still fresh, but they somehow get muffled after thinking about how big her smile could get. Max wasn't the only one who picked up the phone and called, but he was the only one who went and found her. He just couldn't do it without digging into his past and taking something to ease his anxiety.
Lyllith needed distance. She couldn't stand seeing them and having them look at her as if they were looking through her. As if she wasn't even there... So, college was her escape- because that's exactly what it was. An escape. She was completely fine getting little updates from Nathen about her once best friends, so imagine if one of them knocks on your door and falls in your arms with a temperature hot enough to melt a popsicle! You'll have no choice but to call the people that probably never wanna hear from you again.
Working through both past and present problems, pains, guilt, and regrets is incredibly difficult- especially when you're also navigating your emotions and figuring out if the tingling in your heart is caused by their laugh, or something you ate.
It's a cluster of emotions so tangled it makes a ball of yarn weep, but it doesn't stop them from asking what drug Max took, where it came from, or how he got his hands on it. It wasn't the first time Lyllith's seen this happen to somebody either.
As they say, curiosity killed the cat.
