Stories of old tell of five otherworldly heroes who wielded the sword, spear, bow, shield, and gun to defend the land from wave after wave of calamity. With the fate of the world in the balance, the kingdom of Melromarc summons these legendary figures. In modern-day Japan, the call is answered, and the unwitting heroes are transported to this fantasy universe.

Thrust into Melromarc and given the title of Shield Hero, Naofumi is labeled the weakest due to his lack of offensive capability and experience. Meanwhile, Y/N is given the title of Gun Hero, along with the animosity of the people, stemming from the heinous deeds committed by previous wielders.

When the heroes part ways to start their journeys, the two only have one willing companion: the beautiful Princess Malty Melromarc. However, she soon betrays them, steals all their money, and accuses them of taking advantage of her. For their alleged crimes, Naofumi and Y/N are branded as criminals and outcasts of society. With hatred filling their hearts, they vow to uphold vengeance against those who wronged them.
