Dan doesn't speak to any of the teachers and grief for his dead boyfriend has overcome him.
Everyone understands, and leaves him alone, except one - Phil. A relatively new teacher at the school, he doesn't know about Dan's painful past, but just wants him to be better and is willing to do anything to help.

Dan doesn't want his help, feeling that every person should just get on with their business themselves - although he can't help admitting that he felt something different for his Northern colleague.

They may end up seeing a lot more of each other however, particularly when Phil admits he really needs Dan's help with something.
