Kenji, being just a kid and fully unexperienced in combat, was very terrified as he watch his home go up in flames and Longclaw was definitely no match for the monster. So, with little energy she has left, she summoned a portal ring to another dimension and gave Kenji the 7 Chaos Emeralds for him to guard now and pushed him inside the ring, having it close before his eyes. That was the last time Kenji saw Longclaw and the poor kid was heartbroken beyond repair. Many years later, Kenji was living his life as he was adopted by a female older hedgehog, making her his very own mother. Kenji moved on from the past, but it's still a sensitive topic to bring up. Kenji became a pretty strong hedgehog over the years, thanks to his mother. Kenji wanted to look for new adventures to begin as he left his home in search for one and what's better to start an adventure with an old friend he met a few years back.
