Bienvenue dans le Royaume de France : une monarchie où une poignée de privilégiés naissent avec le pouvoir de contrôler d'étranges particules qui constituent l'Univers et la multitude de Divergences qu'il abrite.

Éléonora a grandi dans une Divergence où certains hommes, les Édisseurs, possèdent le pouvoir de contrôler la Matière.

Les Volga en Maîtres de la Matière Ordinaire sont les plus communs des Édisseurs. Leur pouvoir leur permet de modeler à leur guise la Matière qui les entoure et dont ils sont eux-mêmes constitués. Mais un tel pouvoir ne leur servirait à rien sans celui des Opa, les Maîtres de la Matière Sombre. En combinant leurs aptitudes, ces derniers parviennent à édifier des portails leur permettant de voyager d'une Divergence à l'autre ! 

La théorie veut qu'il existe une troisième classe d'Édisseurs : les Fusca. Ces Maîtres de l' Énergie Noire sont les plus redoutés des Édisseurs pour leur prétendue capacité à manipuler le temps. Toutefois, leur existence est un sujet de légende...

Nora a toujours cru que de tels pouvoirs étaient injustement réservés à la gente masculine. C'est du moins ce que son éducation et sa religion lui ont inculqué jusqu'à ce qu'un beau jour, elle découvre être elle-même en possession d'un pouvoir singulier ! 

Alors qu'une sombre menace plane sur les Divergences, Nora se retrouve mobilisée par la Horde, une confrérie d'Édisseurs, afin de prémunir l'Univers d'un anéantissement imminent. Tandis qu'elle découvre peu à peu l'étendue de ses pouvoirs, elle comprend que l'ennemi n'est peut-être pas celui qu'elle croit...
