Put together two nosy detectives, an incompetent small town police force, one rather slow evening, and an elderly couple being brought in for questioning on their latest spate of supposedly "petty" crimes- and what do you get? A disregard to the regular rules of privacy. Bored stiff out of their minds, with the couples' case files sitting right there in front of them along with a hell of a lot of time to waste, trainee Detective Bennet and her colleague take a surface-level dive into exposing some of the truth behind just what makes these two pensioners so notorious in the town. [Written for the Weekend Write-In prompt, "expose". Disclaimer: there are some mentions of various unlawful/violent acts, but no graphic descriptions are given. This work is considered to be a crime-based comedy short, therefore any of the acts mentioned within are, obviously, not meant to be replicated or endorsed.]

Between

She's panting, flushed and breathless like something from another century. It hurts to look at her, so stunningly alive in a way he isn't. Almost smiling, too. She has the kind of lips that need undiluted devotion. "You've always looked at me," she breathes. Yes, and he finds himself thinking about ruin. The right kind, like his knuckles against her jaw to shake her apart. Freedom. Maybe in another life, he brushes the hair off her shoulder and whispers, 'Eyes on me.' Maybe in another life, they have time. 𝑫𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒊𝒕? 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒔𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆. She isn't his to protect. He's a cop, she's taken, and rules are rules. But Faro Wyatt has mapped every freckle on her nose and dreamt of the oceans in her eyes. His resolve is weakening. So when the radio crackles with a single call, he's breaking every rule from here on out.
