As Alaysa and Janek learn how to keep secret the wild bond they have created and learn what it means to heal the land of the plague, they fall deeper in love. Outside forces try to stop Alaysa from beginning the healing journey as all see it as a failing mission. By combining technology from the Alaysa's world and magic from Janek's world, an attempt is made only to discover Alaysa needs all the Lightfire's power. Broken up equally to be used by five previous women, these parts of the Lightfire have been hidden and now must be found for Alaysa to be successful. All before Janek's time runs out, a secret he tries to keep from Alaysa by telling her instead, he will be set free from his exiled life. The wild bond they created means that if one is killed, then the other dies, immediately.
