Love, quite a common practice. Whether it's your choosing or not. Amelia never had a choice since the moment she was born. Grown to be a fit woman for a nobleman. That's all she's ever had in this world, that's her "purpose" her mother would tell her, bring honor to the family.
But love shouldn't be about honor, it should be about passion. Underlying and burning passion, so what would happen if she never felt love for her husband but a women? A desire to bed a woman is sinful and punishable by death. Yet she would open death with open arms if it meant being able to truly love someone.

The characters have such mature conversations and, there's no reliance on the miscommunication trope at all. It explores the concept of mortality and how it gives life meaning through the eyes of both gods and humans. The story follows Samil, the god of the Festivals and the Arts, who is shocked by the apathy of his fellow gods when a human terrorist group gains control over the Goddess of Death. Despite finding no support among his kind, he's determined to help the humans, which sets him down an interesting course. There are lots of great twists in this novel, and I also loved seeing how queerness was worked in throughout both the immortal and mortal realms. Samil is a sweet and refreshing character to root for who is determined to see the good in the world.Concluida

Working for a rich family like the Thompson's, knowing that she was just like them once was hard for Amelia. The fact that she now had nothing left after losing her money, her friends, her boyfriend, her parents and her life caused Amelia to have no other choice but to accept her fate as a maid.
