Carrie did not become a princess the normal way, no, at first she was forced into it. And she down right hated everything about it, I mean who would like to be stuck in a Castle and have a group of 'people' wanting to kill you? She wants to run away, but there is one thing that is holding her back, the one thing that is making her stay at this awful Castle, him and the love that she can not help but feel toward him...Not to mention the place and 'people' he is going to rule is not so...normal....
