In Aelevon, death is only the beginning of your life. The moment you die, you are signed up for the Spirit Corps, a program that pairs you with a living human and dictates that you, the spirit, but seize control of the body during combat and fight in place of the living host. If you fail, you are paired with another living, over and over for eternity.
Penny Heisenberg is a recently deceased who died at the height of the Eternal War, a war that has lasted longer than anyone remembers at this point, that has left the world outside Aelevon nothing more than ruin. The land is a constant battlefield, with everyone who wasn't a soldier living on the outskirts of the battlefield, with the leaders of the realm sitting high above everyone on Spirit Hill. However when Penny and her living, a young man named Isaiah stumble upon a person who seems to have no idea about the war, the Spirit Corps, who claims to be from the desolate wasteland outside of Aelevon, the pair begin questioning everything they knew.
