"FLORA!" a deeper, panicked voice screamed, echoing through the empty home around them. "FLORA! Flora!"

With a jolt, Flora woke, the impenetrable blackness of her world blocking from sight any of her surroundings. Slowly, she sat up, blinking as though it might somehow allow her to see. Her ears seemed to ring from the sheer silence around her. The faint whistle of her own breath was the only noise. Cautiously, she rose to her feet, the shackles at her wrists and ankles clanging shrilly against the rough ground beneath her feet. 

"Mum?" she whispered, her eyes wide and afraid in the darkness. "Mum?" she tried again, her voice ever so slightly louder. Holding back tears, she cried, "Mum? Bill? Dad? Where are you?" 

At the sound of a deafening roar, she collapsed to the ground, hugging her knees to her chest with a sob.All Rights Reserved
