After a lengthy and strenious heist that ended in a battle with the Darkling, Elham Creed is back in Ketterdam with the Crows, where a whole new world of threats await them. Tante Heleen has been killed, and the Crows have been framed for her murder. Pekka Rollins has taken control of the barrel. As if they didn't have enough on their plate to deal with already, the Darkling has miraculously risen from the dead, and is back with a vengeance. With a multitude of problems on their own turf, the Crows' last priority is the safety of Ravka. But when the threat of the Fold appears to be coming for them all, the Crows have no choice but to band together and jump right back into action.

It helps that theres more kruge on the line than any of the Crows thought they would ever have in their whole lives.

With some familiar faces, as well as some new ones, Elham and the Crows journey across the world for a job spearheaded by the Prince of Ravka: the one, the only...Nikolai Lantsov. (Or Sturmhond, as the privateer has dubbed himself.) Can Elham handle the weight of the tasks that have been placed on her shoulders, or will she crash and burn under the pressure? Will the boy she loves finally let her in, or is his past too much for him to reckon with? It all unfolds in the second book of the series, following the events of Netflix's Shadow and Bone.
