Lexi and Rosa Rodriguez were Joel's neighbor's before the apocalypse and Lexi and Joel slowly started to develop feeling. Then on outbreak day Joel loses Sarah and can only turn to Lexi to help him out of his depression. Ellie comes into their lives 20 years later and Lexi and Joel become the parents she never got to have growing up. The Rodriguez's struggle to survive after being separated during the outbreak day until they reunite to take the cure across America with the help of Joel Miller.
