One year after the events of Death Note, a 17-year-old soon-to-be 18-year-old Gothic girl and wannabe witch named Anna Marie Monroe moves to Japan with her acquaintance, Christy Grim, who dreams of starting a singing career. Marie tries to adjust to life in Japan, which is very different from America, since she has no desire to return until she graduates from her senior year of high school so she can get over her breakup with a fellow classmate named John Michaels.
Everything seems to be going normally until Marie finds a Death Note, which contains the power to kill anyone whose name is written inside it. Marie is hesitant at first but then starts killing the world's most dangerous criminals and meets someone she only thought she'd meet in her wildest dreams.
