Julianne doesn't talk; partially because she doesn't know she is capable of doing it. She doesn't sing, or eat the adverage human meal. She doesn't think...or at least she's not supposed to.
Julie doesn't remember a single part of her life. Not her mother, father or even the real world as she assumes she's supposed to know it. Her memories are erased and the only thing that's driving her to continue breathing after being held captive in a four walled room is hope. Hope that one day she will be able to escape and find the true reason she's been shuttered from the world.
