Demetria is a simple peasant who isn't concerned with the possibility of war with Drestin, rather she is more worried with family's farm in order, but all that is tossed aside when she is caught up in one of the many conscriptions sweeping the kingdom under the shadow of war. 
She soon learns that the queen does not intend for her to join the army, but to take the place of a recently dead noble lady and be the bride of the reclusive and mysterious prince of neighboring Drestin. Rumors give him a foul reputation, but when she arrives in his kingdom, she quickly discovers that nothing is what she expected. 
As Demetria tries to play the role of the baron's daughter she is supposed to be, she must navigate the politics of Drestin's royal family and help uncover the truth of Drestin's secret army.
