Widely known as "Professor Z," Zhang Zhehan was one of the most popular inventors in the black market, a place where illegal devices and machines unlicensed by the government were sold by individual inventors to cheat the integrated control system of the high-end surface city. So gifted was this lover of his that when Gong Jun, who worked as his courier, was involved in a near-fatal crash three years ago, Zhang Zhehan singlehandedly brought him back to life by replacing all of his mangled limbs and ruined organs with machines, turning him into the half-robot that he was now.

The accident was a horrible one, but Gong Jun had since recovered and life had been peaceful for the two of them ⁠- or at least, that was what Gong Jun thought, knowing little of what was running in Zhang Zhehan's head all this time.
