Maeve is Katniss Everdeen's 16 year old sister. When Maeve's older sister miraculously survives the 74th annual hunger games, she starts to think that this might actually be the end of their family's troubles. Oh, how wrong she truly is.

Even though the entire world is supposed to believe that Katniss and her fellow district 12 partner, Peeta Mellark, are hopelessly in love, Maeve can't help but start to catch feelings for the boy.

And what's even worse is that Peeta shares those same feelings for her. The fact that this is her sister's "boyfriend" is the least of Maeve's worries - everybody knows that Katniss despises this fake relationship and is actually in love with Gale, anyways. The problem is that President Snow is already out to get Katniss after she publicly defied him. And after he found out about Katniss and Maeve's situation, he was furious.

But that's okay, because Snow has a plan. He will make an example of Katniss, to show her and the rest of the world what happens when you disobey. Not only will the tributes for this year's quarter quell be selected from previous victors, Katniss will also be given the task to personally select one of her sisters' to join her in the games.

But Katniss can't possibly choose sweet, innocent Prim. So that leaves Maeve, who will have to fight to the death with her beloved sister and the love of her life.
