Mr. and Mrs. Davidson are the rich owners and sponsors of extensive gardens and a wildlife research agency.  This, in their minds, left them abnormally prepared when their daughter became an avian hybrid.  They would do anything in their power to protect her from the dangers of the world.

13-year-old Avery sees things differently.  She wants to see the world and experience life as a regular human would, not as the rare miracle she is.  She wants real freedom.
