Jane Cayce has had a lot on her mind recently, which is hard because she has to have everyone else's thoughts on her mind too. After helping to bring down The Hand, a diabolical organization that threatened the world, she struggles to cope with the loss of an important friend. Coupling that with her telepathic power, it's been a real headache. When she discovers the truth, however, she finds herself being dragged into the darkest corners of Hell's Kitchen by the Devil himself. All she wanted was her friend back, but she isn't so sure if that is who's come back to her. But between a mind-reader and a vigilante with superhuman senses, at least there can't be any more secrets.

Alice Jacobs is simply a young pretty girl who needs a job. Sure, her close friend Foggy is someone who she talks to probably too much. And too much implies that he actually got her a job because of it. Being a useless intern. He really just said that she just has to bring the coffee and the cookies, nothing more. Maybe a few helpful hands like writing copies or being in the room when Matt Murdock insists on "special" input. But her boyfriend doesn't enjoy her job, and is quite the prick. "I mean seriously, Matt, you can smell when I walk into a room, hear my heart every time I lie! For fucks sake, you can taste blood in the fucking air! But you can't tell when someone loves you?!" I practically yell, outraged with what's going on between us. "Who ever said that, Daeva?! I knew the second you loved me!" He yells as he bolts out of his seat, causing him to groan in discomfort from the stitches. "Than why the games?! If you don't love me back you could have just told me." I tell him, my chest rising and falling from our argument. "Even without the heightened senses, you know damn well I love you. You don't need to hear my heat beat for that. But if it will goddamn make you believe me..." He grunts angrily, grabbing a hold of my wrist and placing my cold fingers over his fast beating heart. "Tell me doctor, is this the feeling of a lying mans heart?" He whispers, his lips grazing my ear. I take in a deep breath and close my eyes about to respond. "You know your heart rate changes when you're about to say something, right?" He jokes with a knowing grin on his face. I bite my lip, hiding my smile before I press my lips onto his. "Now you're just showing off."
