The bastard of the barrel - Kaz Brekker, the monster under your bed,has never felt as broken and helpless as he does now. When Inej leaves him to pursue her dreams to become the captain of her own ship and crew, she leaves Kaz heartbroken in Ketterdam.
Reeling from being abandoned again Kaz tries to fill the void by drinking and locking himself away to be alone in his misery. But a certain dreg won't let that happen. Wylan decides it's his job to get Kaz to open up about his feelings and the two become closer.

Happy care free, joyful - Wylan Vaneck thought he had his whole life planned out. He and Jesper would get married when he turned eighteen and they were going to live on a farm and take care of homeless kids who had no place to go. They were going to host dinner parties with all Wylan's dads money and forget he ever existed.
But when Jesper cheats on him with Kuwei, again he realizes he's had it. So he goes to Kaz for help.

Together the two slowly learn that healing from things like this is a slow process and that they might need each other in more ways than just comfort. And maybe they realize they were meant for eachother... and that scares them.
But they have gotten through so much together already, it was with their friends, but regardless, they did it together then, they can do it together now. Wylan Vansunshine and Dirtyhands, as one.
