Thirteen-year-old Gordie Burnside has always been sure about one thing: friends are overrated. When he's forced to leave the world, he knows idyllic South Beach Florida and moves to Virginia with his father to live with his grouchy grandfather he's determined not to change. To add to his already chaotic life, he learns he will be living in a "haunted" house where legend has it a young girl was murdered fifty years ago.


However, despite all this Gordie remains firm in his belief he's much happier holed up in his room watching superhero movies and reading comic books. Nothing bad could happen to him there and it provided the barrier he desperately needed to avoid talking about the pain of losing his mother. This changes however, when the mysterious Caroline Dexter begins calling his house. 


On Gordie's first day at Jefferson Junior High he meets two people that will alter his life forever. Lina Rios, a chatty, dramatic girl with Salvadorean roots whose locker is next to Gordie and Bryant Boulder, a carefree underachiever with hidden secrets. 


His backpack disappears that first day and Gordie suspects Wes Jenkins, another classmate who has an obvious dislike for Gordie. The missing backpack was only the first in a series of pranks. The poems left behind are the only clues he has to who may be behind the crimes and Lina and Bryant are determined to help Gordie find the culprit.


It's from a group project Gordie, Lina and Bryant are assigned in their history class that is the catalyst to furthering their friendship, but he is keeping a secret from them. No one knows about Caroline. By now Gordie and Caroline have been talking for months but Caroline is running out of time. And so, without ever having met Caroline or any way to verify her story, Gordie decides to help her. This takes Gordie on a journey where he realizes not only the importance of family, but the rewards and joy that come from having friends.All Rights Reserved

Shouting for Calista to come back, the both of them observe the wonder occurring in Talulla's room in shock. All of a sudden, it's as if a portal forms in their room, with a man stepping out, dressed in a suit, top hat, and trench coat. The portal dissipates with the whirlwind coming to a close; however, a mysterious man named Marvin Douglas suddenly appears in Calista and Talulla's apartment. After pressing him for questions due to the peculiar event, the girls find out that Marvin is from the past, specifically 1967. How did a simple affirmation ritual from a pamphlet gifted to the girls from a fortune-telling site cause time travel to occur? What are the girls left to do with a random man? But, after Sammi gets a football player to put a cockroach in Emma's hair in class, Emma runs out to leave. She then runs into James, who Offers to give her a ride home. He then tells her he fiund out it was Sammi who started the rumor. And to make it up to her, he brings her to see her favorite series, 'Raven-Man' at the Drive-in theatre.

This story is not getting the attention it deserves, so I am attempting to "re-brand" it. Maybe no one "gets" it. If you want to read about "Normal" teenagers, maybe this isn't for you, it's more complicated than that. Mariah was murdered when she was just 15, her remains were never found, although no one but her and her ghost friend, Crazy Girl, know where their bodies are buried. The house Michael now lives in is the one where she lived with her family, and her old room is now his. She appears to him one night, trying to taunt him, but against her will she is falling in love with the boy who lives in her old room.
