1959. David Engelmann, born into a Jewish family, dreamed of seeing the world. In his early teens, he was determined; however, the idea was not very well received by Mika, his mother.

Between school and hard work on the farm his parents owned, there was a balm for David: Brooke Fletcher. That is, until Mika decided that school was no longer necessary for David.

Mika didn't know exactly what was wrong with David, but he was definitely different. And, in her opinion, incapable of taking care of himself in the world outside. Ettel, the boy's father, categorically disagreed.

As if that weren't enough, he would still have to face an envious brother, an obsessed girl and a phony friend in his path.

Will David be able to overcome this situation and realize his dream? Or will he be stuck in that life in the countryside forever?
