There's no escaping the 1980's! In 2015, Christmas Eve traveled three decades into the past, when my ex-fiancé Erica unexpectedly became the topic of conversation. With my whole extended family gathered around, any hopes of evasion withered away when granddaughter Gwen dropped a literal time bomb in the room. To make matters worse, my wife Olivia had her own revelations of my dubious past to share. I did not consider my proposal to Erica very romantic, but urged on by curious relatives, I told the unusual tale. Mundane Proposal features a fun family gathering, a comparison of two loves, and a 1985 flashback to my heartwarming engagement day with Erica.

When Douglas Hawke's grandmother and Isabelle Sojour-D'Sa's grandmother met at a wedding reception they had plenty of time to sit and talk. It didn't take them long to reach the conclusion that their grandchildren could do with a not so gentle push in the right direction. The fact that Doug and Isabelle had never met and were unlikely to take too kindly to having their lives manipulated in this way registered from the outset, which is why the two grandmothers took it upon themselves to announce the engagement in a national newspaper and then promptly made themselves scarce. The fact Isabelle came from old money and Doug came from no money did not matter to either grandmother. In any case family fortunes had reversed. Doug had made a fortune and Isabelle and her family were fighting to reclaim theirs. The fact Doug and Isabelle had never met was a minor matter. In any case having to deal with their grandmothers' set up was a temporary matter. The fact that Doug and Isabelle were perfect for each other, was all that mattered!
