The Montross family revealed Saturday on the Tar Heels team Twitter account that Eric Montross, a former national champion with North Carolina and first-round choice in the NBA draught, has been diagnosed with cancer.
The 51-year-old Montross is starting therapy at the UNC Lineberger Center in North Carolina.
The family released a statement on Twitter that read, "Our family is of course deeply concerned, but we have spent nearly three decades in the fight against children's cancer and know well the incredible advancements that are being made in oncology treatments, as well as the power of love, prayer, support, and positivity."
