When Grace follows a mysterious will-o'-the-wisp into the woods, she suddenly finds herself in the capital of the kingdom called Cynwrig.
Here, she is chosen to be a competitor in the Immer Vying. A peculiar, very dangerous competition to find the kingdom's most powerful sorcerer so that he or she may become the queens royal sorcerer and advisor for the following seven years until the next Games will occur.
The Vying has been a tradition for centuries now without anyone questioning it.
But soon Grace finds out that there is something odd about these seemingly innocent games. And the queen.
Why did the winners of the past Games all vanish when their seven years of serving the crown came to an end? And why has for the first time in forever the winner of the Vying seven years ago been selected as a competitor for a second time?
