Somewhere, sometime in the future there's a city encircled by a river, and beyond only dead grounds. The city is the only known life on earth, the only chance to belong.
In the city lives a seventeen year old girl and she's not like everyone else; she questions everything and struggles to find people like her. The river is her home, it has always been. But finally her 18th birthday is coming up and she's about to get her assignment and purpose to the city, where she'll meet people like her, hopefully.
Unfortunately the Council has other plans for her, leaving the question of belonging unanswered. But the answer is closer than she realizes; it comes with a boy she's never met or seen before, he has a secret that puts the city's darkest secrets in the light.
Will she be able to give up her old life, break the laws and trust someone she just met to make a change?

100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment.
