Nova and Adrian Burgess are sent to stay with their grandparents who they barely know in the middle of nowhere for two weeks, and they are less than thrilled, especially since it's only been a year since their mother died, and their grandparents didn't even show up for the funeral. Adrian is very excited to go and explore the forest, but grandpa says that going into the woods is forbidden. Nova is perfectly fine with just sitting by the pool and relaxing. Adrian isn't very good at following rules though, and Nova makes sure to keep and extra eye on her younger brother. But Adrian ends up stealing a mysterious note from grandpa's office, which leads him and Nova to a secret island in the woods called Penethon Isle, where they learn about the Sparklers. The Sparklers are being with auras that dictate what magical ability you have and what you can do with it. But the Sparklers were forbidden to make any contact with regular humans by the government, so the Council of Sparklers hid Penethon Isle, and every Sparkler must guard their secret very well. Nova and Adrian find out that they are linked to a mysterious legend about the silver and gold auras, which gives them the power of light and darkness. Because of this, a mysterious Sparkler known as Japeth, wants to get them and destroy the humans because of their hatred for the Sparklers. Will Nova and Adrian be able to stop him?

Excerpt only: I quickly run in their direction as my claws elongate into fierce points. I watch as a man in all black strikes down and kills one of the innocent packless men before turning to another. I make a flying leap to attack and am suddenly hit with a strong, overwhelming scent of vanilla and citrus. "Mate!" My wolf yells in my head. "It's just a small cut," I reply, annoyed. None of the other cadets get this kind of attention. Besides, we have to learn this to pass the exam. "Shhh, it's going to be okay," he says, pressing me close. My whole side explodes with sparks. It tickles me. "You have to stop hurt yourself. Why are you even here? How am I going to protect you here?" he asks angrily. "I don't need your protection!" I shout, pushing him away. I get an angry growl back. Quickly I grab another knife and throws it over my shoulder, hitting bulls' eye. He glares at me, and the room has gone completely silent. That's when I discover that I may have gone too far with the insanely possessive highness, even though I'm grateful for the extra lessons he gives me. Then suddenly everyone hurries out of the training area. Leaving me alone with the growling, red eyed alpha. My dream continued the one I'd been having for the past couple of nights. I ran, gasping for breath, through the familiar woods from a dark figure behind me. The faster I tried to run, the slower I seemed to go, until it was like I was running in place. I knew I needed to run. I was terrified of what the figure would do when he caught me. "Mara Leigh," a deep, smooth voice called. It was almost hypnotic. That was new. The figure had never spoke before now. I ran as fast as I could go, eyes searching the forest floor for a big stick or something that I could use to defend myself. "Mara Leigh!" the voice came again, this time more insistent. The forest slowly started to fade and I started to awake to someone shaking my shoulders. "Beau?" I mumbled, turning my head to the side. What's Beau doing in my room this time of night? Why is he shaking me? "Do not call me that name." My eyes flew open as I jumped at the voice from my dream. A face was right in front of mine, and just like the voice, it wasn't Beau. Before I could form a scream, a hand covered my mouth. I tried to bite it but I couldn't get my mouth to open. He's too strong. I started to use my whole body to try to get away, but he crawled on top of me, holding me down. I pulled the hidden knife out from under my pillow and slashed as hard as I could at him, but he just grabbed my wrist and squeezed it until the pain made me drop the knife. Then he grabbed both my hands in one of his and held them over my head. He held me down while I struggled. I grunted and moved and tried to kick and scream, but I only wore myself out. Exhausted, I stopped thrashing and let the tears flow freely down my cheeks. I didn't know what to do, so I just tried to prepare myself for whatever was coming.Terminé
