Kellin Quinn is a 24 year old boy who just received his degree in teaching. Kellin is absolutely thrilled to find out that he will be helping teach a class of mentally-challenged kids, or so he thinks. Kellin assumes that they are children seeing as he's never seen an adult that struggles with those problems.
When he arrives on his first day, he is surprised to see a grown man in there: Vic Fuentes. Vic is 28 with the learning abilities of a third grader. He loves art and he hates interaction with others. Kellin takes immediate interest because he had never seen an adult that struggles with things the way that Vic does.
Vic grows attached to Kellin, an attachment that surprises everyone considering they didn't think he could properly grasp the concept of feelings. Kellin grows attached to Vic, too, mainly due to Vic's mysterious personality.

Vic (20) is being sent to a mental institution and is not happy about it. Its for his own good, so his family says. There's so many things that's wrong with him, but doesn't want to believe it. When he's roommates with Kellin (18), a boy who doesn't like to talk to anyone, and is isolated and closed off, spends most of his time drawing; Vic doesn't know what's wrong with his roommate, he simply thinks that Kellin's insane, and that he doesn't belong with someone like Kellin. Vic doesn't think he needs to be in that place at all. But they are forced to spend time with each other. Until the two boys make an unlikely connection they never saw coming.
