There was someone who Barry always admired, Dr. Harrison Wells. Wells had created the Particle Accelerator and it exploded, killing some people and giving people some powers. Barry was affected by a lightning bolt from the particle accelerator explosion, putting him in a coma for 9 months. When he wakes up he thanks Dr. Wells for the help and leaves, but when he's outside, he finds out he has super speed. Tori also finds out that she has telekinesis the day that Barry woke up from the coma. Dr. Wells tells Barry about affecting other people with the accelerator and calling them "metahumans".
