Bang Chan had put together a group of Nine Trainees he thought had potential. Although Lee Minho was a new Trainee with JYPE after being on tour with BTS as a backup dancer, Chan thought his dancing skills were phenomenal. At first, he almost hadn't added him to the group. He was ready to perform on stage with the eight of them for the chance to be part of a Debut Survival Show, but then Han Jisung (a trusted member of his producing group, 3Racha) asked him to take another look at the new trainee.

Jisung was quickly enchanted by the brown-haired boy with round glasses that sat atop his angular nose. He watched him practice his dance all alone in empty dance studios, hiding behind the heavy metal doors and peering through the rectangular window. As much as he appreciated the boy's dance skills, he almost melted the first time he heard him sing. He had such a silky smooth voice and although it was apparent he hadn't had much vocal training, Jisung thought he had the most angelic voice he'd ever heard.
Han knew the group needed him for their televised showcase.
