So, since Adrian Graye is basilisk theory started to live rent-free in my mind, have some idea while we're at it:So he was forced be a perfect copy of someone. Maybe one of the guys that experimented on him? And then forced to maintain this form forever, loosing in this process the powers that brought him joy. It still wasn't perfect though. He still has his fangs, tail and, well, drama queen character, so in the end the proyect was scrapped.He was appointed a coven head because: He hates witches so he doesn't care if the system is unjustice. He takes his suffering on others which is, obviously, shitty behaviour.He has nothing else to do at this point. He lost his kind and his powers. He's no longer a basilisk.He was a master disguiser so he can still see through the illusions. He was able to find Gus - after all whole Willow trap wasn't prepared ad hoc. He noticed them earlier before acting out. He was also probably expected to give good advices to others but ironical enough he is horrible at it (maybe because he was a natural as a basilisk).love the theory that adrian graye is a basilisk because it comes with the implication that he is plagued with memories of horrible, torturous experiments and is probably threatened with the idea that he can be sent back there at any time

So that way he makes sure he won't betray him or escape. This thingy will probably draw magic out of him since basilisks need it(and that's why he is using magic amplifier, why waste magic when you can avoid it)
