Dipper has been a creative writer ever since he was old enough to be able to put pen to paper. He was always dozing off in class dreaming up stories about far-off realms, daring heroes, and fated lovers. The problem: he's chronically anti-social, and the only person who ever sees his work is his ever-supportive twin sister, Mabel. But when he hears about a writing competition being held by his school whose prize is the winning piece featured in the school paper, he finally gets the chance to have his writing seen by everyone.

Bill Cipher is popular. Perfect grades, high-key personality, and knockout good looks; it seems like everyone wants to be his friend (or boyfriend). Plus, is parents are rich, so he throws crazy parties at his house every weekend that pull all the girls. Bottom line: Bill is living the good life. But when he's dared by his friends to enter a school writing contest, his life starts to change, for better or for worse.
