Stanley and The Narrator, a pair never made to last. Creator and creation. "Let's go back just once and give Stanley one more run of the office, Then I'll retire him for good." Stanley found himself desperately attempting to extend this last run of his as much as he could but ultimately couldn't escape from the end after all. The end of the parable and the end of his life chased him relentlessly. And he was going to run out of breath.
