It has been going on for almost a hundred years. It is a tradition at this point. Everyone accepts it as what it is. Then, one year, the rules change. Instead of children between the ages of 12 and 18, they make it adults between the ages of 18 to 35. With this change, a woman is selected: Mavery.
Mavery's past is quickly brought to the forefront. A truth about a death everyone assumed happened 15 years ago of one of their Champions. She has been alive this whole time, trying to hide from her past that is now forcing its way into everyone's present.
She will now have to show everyone the truth and face the consequences of her actions, both past and present. She will be forced to battle with her wits in a Tournament she knows will kill her, and she is almost content with that, content with the fact she can finally rest.
However, the rest of the nation will not let her die and will bring her back to life, kicking and screaming. They will make her fight for others and herself.
