(REVISED) The frigid air sliced through my weary lungs, each breath a sharp sting of broken glass. The scent of impending rain hung heavy in the atmosphere, adding to the urgency that pulsed through my veins. I pushed my exhausted body forward, leaping over fallen branches and dodging the gnarled roots that threatened to trip me.
A quick glance over my shoulder confirmed my worst fear. The lifeless predators, their eyes vacant and hunger evident, were closing in, their relentless pursuit unyielding. Fear gripped my chest, amplifying the pain coursing through my limbs, but I couldn't afford to slow down.
As I whipped my head back around to focus on my path, my foot collided with an obstacle, sending me sprawling to the forest floor. The impact rattled my bones, stealing the breath from my lungs. My heart hammered in my chest as I struggled to regain my senses, the world spinning in a disorienting blur.
And then, through the haze of confusion, I saw it. Or rather, someone. A figure stood before me, their features obscured by the dim light filtering through the dense canopy. Panic surged within me, unsure if this unexpected encounter would be a savior or a new threat.
The cold air, the impending storm, the relentless pursuit, and now this mysterious presence-all converged in a chaotic symphony, leaving me teetering on the precipice of the unknown.

"I need you to listen to me. When we're out there together, if I say run, run. If I tell you to leave me, then damn it, you leave and you don't look back."
"Daryl," she sighed softly, shaking her head.
"No, I mean it," he argued, encircling her wrist and jostling her a bit, begging her to listen. "I can't lose you. Not like that, not ever."
His words were like lava bubbling in his throat, everything he had fought so hard to conceal was quickly rising to the surface. Fuck it. Any fear of rejection was overpowered by his need to make her understand. It wouldn't change how he felt, or the fact that he'd take on a thousand walkers if it kept her safe for even one more millisecond.
"I need you around, Ace."
"Always."
