The Fjerdan's wanted to create a monster that could not be taken out by the most powerful Grisha. So they created her. But, what they didn't realise she had him even before she had all her powers. She had him, she had consumed him. 
When they do realise that they use it against them. She was Ravka's hope. She was his saving grace as he was hers. Pitted against each other, kept apart even though they wanted to be near each other; fate pulled them apart. 
She has a strong will and she will do what she must to save a country that has loved her all her life. 
She has suffered for years but, she has had a friend who stood by her the entire time. But when the time comes instead of choosing choosing the light she chose the dark because that was her home.
