Erika Hakashi was born into an unstable family. Her mother was terminally ill and her father was currently suffering with severe anxiety issues. Soon after Erika was born, her family decided to give her to a family that could provide for her, care for her and love her. She was left by the doorstep of the Lucky Cat Café on a rainy evening. Her parents had faded away into the night; no one knowing where they had gone. Erika's mother was an extremely close friend with the owner of the café, Aunt Cass, who welcomed Erika in with open arms, much to the despair of losing her best friend. Hiro and Tadashi did the same. However Hiro was protective over Erika; not letting anyone or anything get near to her. 
Sort of like the Big Hero 6 plot, but with twists, turns and loops, leaving you breathless for words.
