A tale following the adventures of a small group of ashen warriors in an unforgiving land of Old.

The Land of Old has seen vicious lords and ladies; rich princes and princesses of a most gluttonous, rageous, and promiscuous nature who corrupted the very earth of the lands with vile curses and horrible plagues.

A story of an ancient cataclysmic event known as the First Kindling has been passed down through the generations in myth among the peoples; ancient ruins lay untouched in fear of what is heard in the night, and the day is hardly better with thieves and monstrosities seen often in the forests.

Follow the stories of these brave souls as they conquer this world of danger.

Part One
-----
A young man awakens in a sweat, lifting his shaven head drowsily and rattling his chained hands.

"...Wha... What...?" He manages to mutter out, but his head pounds and his lips feel dry and cracked. He could really use a drink.

Where was he? What happened?

His eyes wander groggily to his current surroundings in confusion. He spots four old stone walls, decrepit and dusty. A spike, driven into the wall, seems to be attached to chains, linking to rusty cuffs that sit taut on his wrists. The young man blinks in fear.

Not just because he is lost, but because he has no clue who he is or, even for that matter, what he is.

"H-Hello?" He calls out in whispered tones, unsure of whether this was wise or not.

To his horror, a low gurgle seems to emenate from nearby; reverberating off the mostly empty corridor that is faintly lit by the moonlight he sees from his small, stone cell.

The noise grows louder, and he hears the loud clang of old metal bouncing off of metal, and unnerving scrapes of iron on stone...

By the gods, what was that...?

Long ago, when the world was young and humanity struggled against the forces of chaos, the gods intervened. They forged a sword, not as a weapon of destruction, but as a gift of hope. Each god poured a fragment of their essence into it-courage, wisdom, resilience, and strength. It's a sword meant for everything possible. For centuries, the blade lay hidden, waiting for the right moment to be discovered. It wasn't buried in gold or locked away in a grand vault-it rested quietly in the heart of the earth, untouched and unseen, until the time was right. When the first hand grasped the hilt, the sword came alive. Its surface shimmered with an otherworldly glow, a promise of the power within. The one who found it didn't know the gods had shaped it, nor did they understand the weight of what they held. But the sword recognized them. It responded to their strength, their resolve, and their needs. As the blade cut through the darkness for the first time, it wasn't just its edge that brought change. It was the force behind it-the will to fight for survival, for something greater than fear. With every swing, the sword grew brighter, stronger, as if it fed not on blood but on purpose. Though the gods forged the blade, it wasn't theirs anymore. In that moment, it became part of humanity, a bond between the divine and mortal worlds. And for the one who wielded it, the sword was more than steel and magic-it was a companion, a guide, and a silent promise: you are not alone. Thus began the sword's journey, not just as a tool of battle, but as a symbol of what humanity could become. And though its path was just beginning, the gods knew it would go on, far beyond what even they could imagine. (this is my very first novel. I got my inspiration from a nail clipper)

**SERIES ONE - BOOK ONE** They have been found. When the five stand together, the Order of Verdicts shall fall and peace shall reign across the Realms. Ruth Watson is your average teenage girl who loved nothing more than being with her friends, drinking and smoking. Until one fateful evening she gets whisked away from her family to a place where Coffinhounds, Duskwings and Razorsnare's roam, looking for prey. She soon discovers that the only residents are teenagers just like her, living in a small village called Ozryn. Little does she know that this is just leading up to something much MUCH bigger than anyone could imagine. ******************** "SQUAWWWK" Screeched the bird from behind us, reminding us that it was still there. We spun to face it, torn between defending ourselves against the bird or the beasts in the forest. The bird had crept closer, we realised and now stood a few metres away from us, giving us a good view of its appearance. Taller than a full grown man, it had the body of a vulture, its strong wings folded along its back, legs the size of a strongmans thighs and its clawed feet were the size of lorry tyres. It had a long thin neck stretched out infront of it and its head... Its head was a humans. Crazy wild hair stuck up around its head like a fan, mad, wide black eyes bore into us, its nose turned up at the end and it had its mouth open, lips pulled back showing razor sharp, pointed teeth. It screeched again at us, taking another hop forwards.

Sneak peak: "Ssh... They're going to hear you! Be quiet and act like you're sleeping!" he whispered loudly. Celine shut her mouth and moved as far away from him as she possibly could without falling out of the bed. "At the first opportunity he could slit my guts open to get that gem," she thought nervously. She was still holding the dagger so she moved the hand that was holding it to where he could see it. "I'm still armed so don't try anything foolish," she warned him. He looked shocked and a little taken aback. "Like I'm really going to do anything improper with all these soldiers crawling around," he said in irritation. They both fell silent. Then he hastily got up from the bed. "Anyway, you're not my type," he replied angrily. He walked over to the chair and grabbed his cloak and spread it out on the floor in front of the fire to make a pallet. Then he laid down and turned his back on her. Celine ignored him and listened to see if she could hear what was going on below. She could hear the soldiers speaking downstairs in the tavern but couldn't make out what they were saying. It sounded like they were already setting up their headquarters. "Just my luck," she thought. "I don't know how I'm going to get out of this one! The enemy is all around me!" Then she glanced over at Brandon who was still lying by the fire. "Even in this very room!"

"Who's out there?" One of the men yelled. Of course only silence met them. I remained quiet and waited for the group to start moving again. "Maybe it was just an animal." Someone whispered. The person, who I assumed was the captain of the small squad, signaled for them to walk again. They clearly showed fear as they kept going; brandishing their weapons to guard themselves with. "Two are holding lanterns. I'll tell you when you're too close to them." I heard my friend whisper in my ear. I followed the men as I picked up another branch and waited for the right time to break it. They continued to walk through the forest, turning their heads in every direction as if an animal might lunge at them and rip their throats out. I guess in a way I was going to do that. "Go back a few feet." My friend whispered. I carefully distanced myself from the group and waited. "Where is she?" I quickly snapped the stick as soon as he finished asking the question. They stopped and two soldiers raised their lanterns to shine its light in the darkness. I quickly hid behind a tree before both of them turned where I was. A low frustrated growl came from one of the men, "The girl's playing with us. She's out here following our every move." How paranoia can cloud the mind. At nine years old, Silver decided to leave her village for the forest. Since then, she's been hunted; everyday is a fight for her life, every breath she takes could be her last, but she's determined to stay alive. Her life isn't the kind anyone would want to live but she's managed to survive this long so, what's a few more years?
Gamleon's Tail ~ Welcome to the worlds of : Within ~ by Cicada3300
17 parts Ongoing Mature
I wrote this for EVERYONE. To appeal to anyone that reads ANY genre. It combines almost all of them. It's an introduction to the Worlds of Within universe. When you get to the action parts (which doesn't take long) you should be invested enough to want to unravel the mysteries and enjoy its intrigue... The flood is raging. A terrifying, heartless mountain of water, swallowing the world . The tunnel networks? Of course, that won't save them. The forests? Like leaves in a breeze. The lookout towers and trade hubs? Gone. Washed clean. Every home, every last trace of what once was. Gamleon is the first to see it ... and survive. His mind is near collapse, his heart broken. He runs. What would YOU do? What could anyone do? Some scrape by in a mythological setting of beasts and medieval men. Cruel, literally cold-blooded Gorgon hordes enforce an absolute rule slithering in the tunnels beneath the feet of every kingdom. There is an isolated, forgotten place. A cavern, magnificent and vast, older than civilization. A place where the weird and the unwanted might ride out this cataclysm if Gamleon can stay alive long enough to get them there.. In this special place, something incredible, cut off from the outside, lurks. Something... you won't be ready for or ever expect. Gamleon, our weary adventurer, is a paradox: terrifying to some perhaps, yet his heart and intent is helpful, with a quiet dignity bordering on noble, intimidating and innately intelligent. The only way back out is to navigate the Gorgon tunnels. Join him, won't you ? Share his inner thoughts . See and feel how they help us all learn how to persist and triumph in spite of a world where everything is stacked against us. ( sound familiar, it should.) Join him and be swept away as he encounters or invents never-before-seen innovations and outrageous challenges. Dignity meets hope. Self-respect shines beyond courage. Welcome my friend to the Worlds of Within.
