~ "And up close?" I asked stupidly.

She studied me for a moment. "An empty fridge."

"And that's supposed to mean...?" I egged her on. Now that I look back on it, I shouldn't have.

"It means you're a disappointment." ~

After a war which almost ended the human race, a new generation takes lead. They are being trained in a school that suits their special abilities, which were given to them by scientists who believed these children could stop the war.

However, these abilities do not always come in useful.

Mark doesn't remember anything about his life before school, nothing. Nada. Nope. He only has one goal.

"No one can know I can't remember."

Tanni has a sweet disposition which is usually covered up by her defensive personality and a need to hide things important to her. Her ability is the worst of all. Touch means death.

Will they be able to let go of the past, and learn to trust? Or will these abilities and sweet amnesia be the end of them?

Human touch can be seen as a reassurance that we are not alone. So much can be expressed through a simple touch; Love, hate, and need. The list is endless. Touch can go from a simple handshake to a friendly hug. It can be meaningless or it can be everything, depending on who the contact is coming from. I was hugged once when I was Eight after my parents died in a car crash. I was told it sent me into a catatonic state, I became totally unresponsive for about two days. After several tests and sessions with a therapist I was diagnosed with Haphephobia which means that I have a fear of being touched. My therapist believes that my parents death is what brought this on. I don't remember much about my parents but I do remember their touch. I remember how my mom would always kiss my forehead before tucking me in at night, and how my dad always ruffled my hair whenever I sat on his lap. It's funny really, I can't remember what they look like but yet their touch is still fresh in my mind. -Sam Samantha Carson has been homeschooled ever since losing her parents in a car accident made her afraid of getting close to anyone.
