Hazel and Floral have moved up from the children's dorm. They have now been deemed teenagers, and it is a matter of time before they reach the age of 11, and are adopted. For them, the most important thing is hoping they get the nicest dorms, the best chores and that they get good seats in chapel. However, things are changing in their small orphanage. The elder trio, Henry, Venn and Naomi, know something that she does not, and after Hazel breaks her leg in an accident with Mr Frog, she is sent to the infirmary, locked in with Venn, who has a horrible fever. Suddenly, Hazel's future at the orphanage is shaky, and who knows how long she will last?
