Ptolemus Pierce was the youngest son of a family legacy, both his mother and father bringing pride to their District as Victors of the Hunger Games. It was only a matter of time before he would be expected to follow in their footsteps, and when the Sixty-Ninth Hunger Games came around, that would be his chance. However, the glory of being crowned Victor did not outweigh the gore and grief like his family promised. Now all he has left is his nightmarish memories and warlike rage.

Sage Navarro hated gore. Living in District Ten where animals were raised to be slaughtered, one would think she had at least become indifferent. After winning the Seventy-Second Games, she had grown to despise it even more, wanting to hide away in the pastures of home with her horses. But before she could sneak away for good, she had caught the eye of not just the Capitol, but also a District Two Legacy.

How the two fell in love is beyond most people. A Career bred to kill and a cunning girl from an outlying district should have never crossed paths. Their unlikely romance confused but captivated the Capitol citizens, rooting for Ptolemus and Sage's partnership to stand the test of time. It seemed like it might.

Until the Third Quarter Quell.

Now the two lovers are to be thrust back into the Arena, only one of them permitted to make it out alive. Ptolemus would do anything to protect her, and Sage would do the same.

That's why she's so willing to take a gamble on another pair of star-crossed lovers from District Twelve.
