Macy always knew that one day, her life was going to end.

Living inside the walled structure known as the City, Macy's life had been planned for her from the day she was born. She would go to school, pick a job to apprentice at, and would keep that job until the day she performed an extraordinary stunt that would take her life.

As the City's youngest and most successful doctor, Macy holds a vital role in upholding the City's structure and values. But when a fatal error in judgment strips her of her title, Macy is left totally adrift. That is, until the Cardinals give her an important mission.

After years of failing to do so themselves, the Cardinals assign Macy the task of finding the Renegades' weakness and delivering their leader, Atlas, to them. Macy is more than willing to accept the mission- after all, the Renegades were responsible for the disappearance of her sister, Skye, fifteen years prior.

But once outside the walls, Macy discovers a twisted web of lies and secrets. As the lines between right and wrong begin to blur, Macy is no longer sure who's at the center of the deceit. And for the first time, Macy begins to doubt all the things she's been told her whole life.
