Alix Reed has a mutation that lets her teleport, but she doesn't know why or how. She uses it to run away from her past and to have fun. She also uses it to steal from stores and banks. She doesn't care about the law or the people she hurts.

But her carefree life ends when she breaks into a bank vault and sets off an alarm. She escapes but leaves behind a clue that leads Agent Miller to her. Agent Miller works for the Division, a secret organization that hunts down and cures mutants like Alix. She believes that Alix's mutation is a disease and a threat, and that she needs to be cured or eliminated.

Alix becomes a fugitive, while also trying to understand more about her mutation and herself. She faces dangers, enemies, and allies that will change her life forever.
