TL,DR: Depressed!Traumatized!Michael x "Egotistic"!"Perfect"! Reader (They're more or less faking it)-  
You grew up with Michael, high school ended a couple days ago and well, you have summer before you need to head off to college. Michael decided against college but sometimes it seems like it wasn't his decision. While you may have been close in childhood, all the trauma in his life has really created some distance. The guy is an only child now, having lost his siblings years ago, while he wasn't going to win the Best Brother of the Year Award, they were still his siblings. Now on borrowed time, you try and rekindle any bit of friendship to leave on good terms. You definitely plan on coming back for breaks and summer vacations in the future as well as when you're done but that won't be for a while. Plus, if you can't seem to be friends by the end of the summer, you might just let the guy have the distance... Keep his walls up like they always have been. Marius switches schools at the beginning of his Junior year and meets Jae. Jae is attracted to Marius but is not accepting of these feelings, so he, instead, bullies and beats Marius. As the story progresses, Jae's mental health deteriorates, and life as he knows it falls apart. The people who ultimately pick up the pieces of Jae's broken self and helps him put them back together turn out to be people Jae never expected to stand up for him. Life turns out to be pretty alright. But, things are never what they seem. And for Jake, Jae's best friend, life is especially brutal. ***sad ending*** I do not condone violence or homophobia of any kind, nor am I intending on romanticizing them. This is a work of fiction, but it also serves to show how important mental health truly is. I am a big believer that the mind requires just as much care as the body, and that everyone deserves to pursue their happiness and be loved and accepted by the right people. I also keep editing, even after I've edited and published. It sucks editing your own stuff because mistakes keep popping up :( I'm relatively new with story writing, and I'll admit that it kind of sucks starting out, but please read! It's brutal and sad at times, and it will probably trigger some... A lot of... people, but it gets better! Or at least I feel it does.
