On the girl's eighteen's birthday, the boy comes back to claim her as his own, and force her to marry him.

My guess is the latter, but he is so gorgeous that a little complication is a small sacrifice to make. Dane just wants to get left alone. Ever since losing his brother, he's not been quite the same.
