When a mystical artifact transforms mermaid Coralia into human form, she washes ashore at a seaside bonfire-and straight into the life of Amiri, a boy with a curious mind trying to find his way through the world.

Bound by a secret, Amiri promises to help Coralia explore the human world while she reveals the wonders of the ocean beneath the waves. But danger lurks close: after Amiri's father's best friend, Eugene, has a mystical and bewildering experience out at sea, he becomes hellbent and obsessed with proving the existence of something unheard of, and when he learns of Coralia, his hunt to capture her begins.
