The Death Games are exactly as they are said. Lions of all types are chosen to fight in an arena. This arena in enclosed, with no escape. The King could decide what happens inside the arena. 

The lions chosen will fight to try to survive. The last one standing, wins.

Kion visited the Pridelands sometimes, hoping his father, and family had changed, but they never did. Simba noticed Kion leaving and coming back almost every day, and followed him. When Kion was caught, Simba was furious. He told Kion he had to choose. Kion was put into a situation where he had to decide from respect, love, and affection, or his family. Kion had one week to decide, but in one week, there can be many changes, and in that week, Kion found love...but was it what he wanted? When Simba told Kion to decide, Kion was in fury.
